DIRECTOR, Center for Research on Educational Equity, Assessment, and Teaching Excellence
Associate or Full Professor

The Center for Research on Educational Equity, Assessment, and Teaching Excellence (CREATE) at the University of California, San Diego invites applications for a tenured faculty member at the Associate or Full Professor level to serve as Director of CREATE, starting July 2011. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct a program of research that contributes significantly to the national research and policy dialogue on educational excellence and equity, engage national, state, and community elected officials, and interact with educational officials at all levels of the educational system. In addition, the candidate will provide intellectual leadership for the Center on campus and in the broader San Diego community.

Responsibilities for this position: leading and participating in administrative functions of the Center and the University; maintaining an active program of research, including assessments of The Preuss School, our on-campus charter school devoted to the preparation of underrepresented minority students for an expanded range of choices after high school, notably college enrollment; coordinating the wide-range of campus outreach efforts, including teacher professional development, parent engagement, and college enrollment advice; teaching graduate and undergraduate courses and advising graduate students; representing the Center and the University with local educators, elected officials, community-based organizations, and the research community; creating a climate in the Center that supports equity, inclusion, and diversity.

Required qualifications: a Ph.D. in a social science field, which may include Education; an established record of research on educational equity issues; demonstrated excellence in teaching and student research advising; excellent communication skills; demonstrated strong administrative leadership in directing an equitable, inclusive, and diverse scholarly and policy environment; experience working with educators, elected officials, and the research community to decrease educational disparities; a proven track record of grant writing; successful experience developing collaborative relationships with other universities and education agencies.

The successful candidate will have a departmental affiliation appropriate to her/his primary field of scholarship.

The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary will be based on University of California pay scales.

Closing date: Review of applications will begin on 15 NOVEMBER 2010 and will continue until the position is filled.
